About
Classical and contemporary saxophone in Groningen
Groningen Sax Fest is a three-day festival dedicated to classical and contemporary saxophone performance. It brings together recognised soloists and ensembles, conservatory students, young talent, amateur saxophonists, teachers and audiences.
Through concerts, masterclasses, collaborative performances and an instrument exhibition, the festival connects artistic quality, learning and regional participation in one accessible setting.
The first edition is initiated by Vitaly Vatulya with Stichting Music Bridges and Prins Claus Conservatorium.
Context
A meeting point for the North
The Northern Netherlands has a strong culture of wind bands, fanfares and amateur music-making. Groningen Sax Fest creates a dedicated place where professional musicians, students and amateur players can meet the saxophone as a concert, ensemble and educational instrument.
The festival is designed as the foundation for a recurring international event in Groningen, connecting performance, chamber music, education, artistic exchange and new creation.

New work
Two world premieres
The first edition includes two new commissions by Prins Claus Conservatorium alumni Deborah de Graaf and Jelte Rienstra. Both works will receive their world premiere during the Festival Concert in Groningen.
Masterclasses
Registration is now open for masterclasses and coaching sessions, including individual lessons as well as sessions for saxophone quartets and wind ensembles.
Masterclasses are given by Amstel Quartet, Arno Bornkamp, Juana Tecles Palop and Vitaly Vatulya. Open to participants of all ages and levels.
